I am writing to report the continuing shortage of fluorescein ophthalmic strips, which are essential in daily eyecare practice. These strips have been on backorder since the beginning of this year, and supplies remain unreliable.

Fluorescein strips are critical for both routine examinations and emergency eye care, including detection of corneal abrasions, foreign bodies, infections, and intraocular pressure–related conditions. Without them, timely diagnosis and treatment are compromised, creating real risks to patient safety.

I respectfully urge the FDA to prioritize this shortage so providers can maintain safe, effective care for patients who depend on these visits.
